Tax Comparison chart for Butler County School Districts.
During the 2008 Issue 16 campaign, Citizens for Talawanda Schools put out campaign material showing Talawanda as having the lowest actual tax rate in Butler
County at 23.15 mills. You may review their material by clicking here. In a word, this is a lie.
According to the Butler County Treasurer, our actual 2007 property tax rate for Talawanda School District is 51.45. You may verify this by clicking here.
In 2008, even prior to the passage of the high school levy, that rate had climbed to 56.12. You may verify that by clicking here.
The rates for 2009 will be available after January 1, 2010 and they will be posted here as soon as they are available.
The obvious point of CFTS campaign material was to make it appear that you have the lowest school taxes in Butler County in 2007, and that is also untrue.
The comparison chart below will prove that you have some of the highest rates, and if your total taxable family income in 2007 was more
than $96,500, YOU HAD THE HIGHEST PROPERTY TAXES IN BUTLER COUNTY!
Below is a comparison of the 2007 and 2008 TOTAL taxes due on a single family home of approximately $150,000 assessed value PLUS the income tax due
the school district. There are 10 school districts in Butler County and only 4 have a school income tax (Madison .5%, Ross .75% and New Miami and
Talawanda at 1%). Values and taxes were obtained from the Butler County Auditor and the Ohio Department of Taxation. Individual parcel ID's available upon
request. **No single family property approximating $150,000 in value could be located in the New Miami district and the $123,000 property value used was
multiplied by 1.22 to bring it up to a fair comparison value.
